From the comments: The pressure to achieve in China

May 12, 2014 /

Smart stuff from the comments: China-based TED community member 向彬李 shared this in response to the TED Talk by Meg Jay: Why 30 is not the new 20.

“This is really not a problem in China. From the moment you graduate, you are under pressure to get an apartment, a car and finally a girlfriend and a wife. Life never stops unless you have a rich family. But many people in China consider this a problem rather than a relief from the avoidance of a potential problem. Young people are pushed in way too early to their ’30s,’ where a lot of people panic.

I believe what Meg Jay said: do something meaningful, something that adds up to your value. But don’t rush into real life. Even a meaningless life is still a kind of life.”
